STUFF YOU WILL HATE

Gonna try to record one with Shawn this week before I head off to Aza again. I'm thinking we can just get a couple crappy USB headsets and record with those, or will I need some kind of mixer? I have a Fagbook Pro, if that matters.

As far as setting up the RSS/iTunes/etc, can anyone recommend a good tutorial on that?

Is this something you want to start doing on a regular basis and have good sound quality (i.e. not sound like you recorded you and some guy talking on Skype with your built-in laptop mics) or a one-off/rare occasion thing? What's your budget?

Just use the headsets first, the effort should go into making sure the content is good and you create a product we want to listen to, then if it turns out awesome and SYWH-Live becomes a thing, you should invest in a decent mic and maybe a mixer.

If you're willing to spend about $250 for a barebones fairly good quality audio starter kit I recommend going this route:

1. Get this recorder
2. Buy 2 of these microphones
3. Download Audacity for your basic editing needs
4. It looks like WordPress has podcasting built-in

This will give you pretty good audio quality. If you decide you want to be more like a professional podcast and want to be able to have more than one guest then you can get into looking into mixers or moving to a 4 or 8 track recorder.

Wood subscribe no matter what it sounds like, quality content is quality content.

Then take your crappy USB headsets and record in Audacity. Make a bullet list run down for the podcast beforehand to keep it purposeful, guided, and prevent moments where one of you starts saying, "Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so what now?" When you're done recording edit out any shitty dead silence or moments where one of you is saying "Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so what now?" because that's an advantage you are afforded by not doing it live. The only effect you want to use is "normalize". If your podcast is going to be just talking, you should be fine normalizing at 0. If it has music, shoot for around -12.
