Well Bella is a Mary Sue meaning she doesn't actually DO anything, she is just loved and adored by all of these interesting/sexy/powerful people for no particular reason and then somehow magically becomes the most important thing in the universe.

It's similar in that it is fantasy for the average joe the same way twilight is a fantasy for the average girl except that McClain is a character who is well established with his own faults and motivations and he steps up and achieves things on his own.

A better comparison would maybe be The Matrix, where he basically is a useless sack of shit who is somehow perfect and great according to all of these cool, interesting people that just fall into his life, but he's boring and 2-dimensional even when he "realizes his power" and becomes omnipotent for no apparent reason.

Exactly, which is why I can't really hate on a girl for watching a Twilight movie. They are allowed.

John McClain was only a regular joe in that he was unpretentious. What made him so likable is what made Al Powell, Argyle and Zeus likable. They were all unassuming guys whose balls and resourcefulness were far underestimated. I just don't think they captured that in Die Hard 4. McClain has this ridiculous godlike aura around him the whole movie. The glib jerkoff from the Apple ads and Kevin Smith as his allies along with the stiff from Deadwood, the kung-fu broad in the catsuit and those fucking parkour guys instead of anyone with an actual personality told me they were just making another superhero movie.

I usually don't talk about movies on any deep level, and this is no exception, but Die Hard 4 was less believable than James Bond surviving countless near death experiences over the last 40 years. Bruce Willis is still the baddest though.

Lol! reminds me of my honeymoon/vacation with the wife. We went to see a couple movies and I think she expected to makeout, meanwhile I was transfixed on the cinematic gravitas of fuckin Rango (legit good movie and fun too). We talked about it afterwards but thankfully she wasn't mad. She understood I really like movies in general and have few opportunites to go to theaters. The tradeoff is that I beat it up for a minumum hour and a half every time (I do that anyways); my movie time is my time, smash time is all about her.

I'm going to talk to my students about why M. Bay is the greatest auteur of this generation today. I'm sure they will get some butthurt and try to tell I am wrong and that the tree of life is the greatest film of this generation.

Can we for srs talk about how Bad Boys 2 is probably the best big budget action movie ever? have we done this, and I just missed it?

I actually didn't know which films Michael Bay did until I read this. The Rock and Bad Boys are great, first Transformers is a lot of fun but the second was just a mesh of colours coming from all angles, was impossible for me to tell what was going on half the time.

Having "actually read the book" sounds like the best way to fuck with stupid twighlight fans, but that would actually require reading the books, and in all honesty, it's not worth it. Could think of 1,000,000 better things to do than read that shit.
