I can't tell if this is regular joke rap a la lonely island, a sarcasm of hip-hop, or a legit attempt at abstract art. I think that's actually pretty impressive in the grand scheme of things. That said, I found it in no way amusing.

Would smash all dem bishes doe.

I love rap where they just repeat ignorant shit ala NOLA bounce, so I would definitely pump that jam.

It's Andy Milonakis or w/e his name is, that fat 35 year old who looks like a 16 year old who had a show on MTV.

Ilu triple D.

There's some newer shit I really need to shift through but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm trying to avoid "hood shit" like this, though honestly these dudes are pretty legit and have been around for a while.

Also this should be cross-posted to the ass thread. Also in any "terrible music video" thread.

Brah, would you say there is a defined Dallas sound? I haven't listened to enough to be able to discern it from just being "southern" in general. Like it's obviously not as "country rap" as Houston, and not exactly trap, or at least what I identify as trap. What are the defining characteristics to you?

Got into this mixtape recently, and it's pretty classic Young L, but with more video game sounds. I'm really into it.

Every new track I hear from the new David Banner makes me want it even more.

Honestly it's got strong dance roots. Dallas used to get mocked for only having dance songs and only promoting dance-by-numbers songs and artists. Most recently it was the dougie/rack daddy (lol @ cat daddy, chris brown is a gay)/d-town boogie. I'd say it's kind of somewhere between Houston/trap and something like Chicago? DFW is actually a prosperous city, and money, status, and taste are important here, so it's not as cool to be poor and ignorant, but it's still the south and they still view their music as a product and their MC'ing as a career and not an artistic pursuit, so nobody is trying to compete in lyrical olympics. Dallas was struggling to have a "sound" for a long time, but it really came into it's own in the mid 00's or so with this kind of stuff. (There was actually a period of time where they had a lot of murders in clubs out here and some DJs stopped spinning violent shit period, and it actually changed the way a lot of DFW people produced hip-hop)

I think a big part of the defining Dallas sound is that it's actually made for normal black people and not white people. There are no hipsters nibbling at the feet of Dorrough, the extremes of "NPR kid hip-hop" are not prevalent here. The average rapper doesn't have to front on some super gangster shit, pretend like he didn't graduate from high school, or pretend they don't bust their ass to try to stay relevant and sell themselves, and the average Dallas accent is seriously what you hear from these guys, we are not fronting on being deep south country bros.
